Aqua Voice Free, Pro and Max prices explained with the real annual bill, student discount, free-word limit and a practical comparison with Talkpad.

Aqua Voice's free plan sounds generous until you read the unit: 1,000 words, not 1,000 words each week. If you dictate a few long emails or a project brief, that allowance can disappear quickly. The paid plans may still be worth it. The point is to know what you are buying before your first long session.
This is a cost and fit guide, not a transcription accuracy shootout. Prices and plan descriptions below come from Aqua Voice's pricing page and Talkpad's pricing page, checked in October 2026. Prices are in USD. Recheck the checkout screen before subscribing, particularly if you qualify for Aqua's student discount or a promotion changes.
Aqua offers Free, Pro, Max and a Business plan. The distinction between monthly billing and an annual commitment matters more than a large discount badge: a quoted "$8 per month" can mean a $96 payment for a year, not eight dollars charged each month.
| Plan | Free use | Monthly billing | Annual billing | Who should look at it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aqua Free | 1,000 free words with Avalon | $0 | $0 | Trying recognition and the interface |
| Aqua Pro | Unlimited words | $10/month | $8/month, $96/year | Regular dictation plus custom instructions and dictionary |
| Aqua Max | Unlimited words | $30/month | $24/month, $288/year | Live words and the "Send it" voice command |
| Aqua Business | Everything in Max plus admin features; two-seat minimum | $24/seat/month | $19/seat/month, $228/seat/year | Teams needing centralized billing and controls |
| Talkpad Free | 2,500 words each week on desktop | $0 | $0 | Recurring light desktop use |
| Talkpad Pro | Unlimited words | $8/month | $6/month, $72/year | Regular Mac or Windows drafting |
These are published prices as of October 2026, not quotes for your location or a promise that a promotion will last. Aqua's official page also lists a 70% student discount on Pro and Max after school-email verification. Its FAQ quotes student Pro at $3 monthly or $2.40 per month billed annually. If you qualify, the student price changes the comparison substantially.
Do not compare 1,000 words with 2,500 words until you compare the reset rule. Aqua describes Free as "1,000 free words" on its pricing page. It does not say those words renew weekly, so I would treat it as a trial-sized pool unless Aqua confirms otherwise. Talkpad explicitly says 2,500 words per week on supported desktop devices. A writer who speaks 400 words into a first draft on three days has already passed Aqua's stated free-word allowance, while staying inside one week of Talkpad's desktop allowance. That is a hypothetical workload, not a measured usage result.
Free can still be enough if you only need to evaluate how Aqua handles names, formatting and your own voice. Start with a real, low-stakes paragraph. Try a short correction and a technical term you use often. If you like what comes back, decide whether the extra features justify a subscription. A free plan is a test environment before it is a permanent workflow.
For a broader look at which free limitations matter, read our free versus paid voice typing guide. The central question there is whether you need more words, better handling of your vocabulary or a different way to edit. Those needs are not interchangeable.
Here is a simple monthly decision worksheet. Enter your own number of useful dictated words; do not count a discarded test sentence as productive output. The divisions below describe subscription cost per 1,000 useful words. They do not measure quality, speed or how much time a tool saves.
| Useful words per month | Aqua Pro monthly at $10 | Talkpad Pro monthly at $8 |
|---|---|---|
| 2,000 | $5 per 1,000 words | $4 per 1,000 words |
| 10,000 | $1 per 1,000 words | $0.80 per 1,000 words |
| 20,000 | $0.50 per 1,000 words | $0.40 per 1,000 words |
The math is deliberately plain: monthly price divided by useful monthly words, multiplied by 1,000. Use annual prices only if you are comfortable paying for a year. Aqua Pro's $96 annual bill and Talkpad Pro's $72 annual bill both lower the monthly equivalent, but the lower number is not helpful if you stop dictating after a fortnight. Before paying for any tool, measure a week of your real drafts, then ask how often you would actually reach for it.
A $2 monthly gap is small if Aqua's custom instructions save you daily cleanup. The same gap is unnecessary if your documents need only clean prose in an ordinary text field. Price per word is a lens, not a verdict.
Aqua Pro lists an expanded custom dictionary and custom instructions alongside unlimited words. Those features are appealing when you repeat specialized names or want a particular drafting style. Test them with a representative sample instead of judging from a demo sentence. A developer may care about syntax and library names; a postgraduate researcher may care about names in a bibliography. Either should verify the final text, especially quotations and figures.
Max is a separate purchase decision. Aqua says it adds Realtime Mode, where words appear live, and a "Send it" voice command. If you want to see text arrive as you speak or control that final handoff with your voice, try the feature and decide whether it earns the much higher price. If you just need to dictate a draft, Pro is the closer fit. Aqua Business adds organization controls and has a two-seat minimum, so a solo freelancer should not use the Business rate as a personal price comparison.
Aqua's official pricing page says the product is available for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. Talkpad is available for macOS and Windows as a desktop voice keyboard. For a desktop-only comparison, check how each app behaves in your actual editor, browser and chat app. For mobile needs, inspect each product's current platform offering directly rather than assuming the desktop plan gives you the same workflow on a phone.
Talkpad's free desktop allowance is a good starting point for a recurring habit: 2,500 words each week without choosing a paid plan on day one. Put the cursor in a draft on your Mac or Windows PC, speak a paragraph, and inspect the result. If you outgrow the weekly allowance, Pro provides unlimited words at the published launch price of $8 monthly or $6 per month billed annually. Confirm the current offer at Talkpad pricing before paying; introductory prices can change.
Do not buy Talkpad because a table says it is two dollars cheaper. Buy a voice keyboard only if it works in the places where you write and produces text you are willing to edit. Aqua's custom instructions or live transcription may justify its price for you. Talkpad's repeated free allowance and simpler Pro tier may fit you better. Our push-to-talk explainer shows what to test about activation and stopping, and the dictated-text proofreading guide helps you check the output without spending all your saved time polishing it.
Spend ten minutes on the same ordinary draft in each tool, then review the names, punctuation and cleanup time. That small test tells you more than a monthly price in isolation. Keep private or regulated text out of any service until you have checked its policy against your workplace requirements.
Aqua lists a Free plan with 1,000 free words and its Avalon transcription model. The pricing page does not state that the 1,000-word allotment renews every week. Check Aqua's account details for the current usage rules.
As of October 2026, Aqua lists Pro at $10 month to month or $8 per month billed annually ($96 for the year). Eligible students may get a lower price after verification.
Both offer unlimited words. Aqua says Max adds Realtime Mode, the "Send it" voice command and early access to new features. Max costs $30 monthly or $24 per month billed annually as of October 2026.
At the published October 2026 individual prices, Talkpad Pro is $8 monthly or $6 per month billed annually, while Aqua Pro is $10 monthly or $8 per month billed annually. Aqua also offers a student discount that may reverse the price comparison for eligible people. Compare the features you will use, not only the headline rate.
